You hear it all the time that women struggle to lose weight more than men.

But why is this?

While people may blame it on genes or a slower metabolism, it can be a hidden cause that's stopping women from weight loss.

Here’s 4 very real reasons women struggle with weight loss:

  1. There is a hormone imbalance.

Women have a natural tendency to hold more stress than men. When you have high levels of cortisol in your body, due to higher than normal stress levels. It can have drastic effects on your ability to shed pounds. The so-called “fight or flight” hormone increases appetite, and gives you those unwanted cravings for sugar and carbs.

  1. You're eating the wrong kinds of foods for your body.

Many of us are fooled by low-fat and no-fat food options. The problem with these foods is that many other chemicals and unhealthy substances are added so that they taste better. These additives are harming your ability to shed weight.

  1. Hidden Sugars in Food Marketed to Women

Underestimating how much sugar is contained in products can also lead to detrimental effects on weight loss. Women are known more to pick a salad at a restaurant thinking its the healthier option.

Lots of salad dressings and pre-made sauces that are supposed to be “healthy", are often riddled with sugar. Try ordering the salmon with a veggie side instead! And if you're in the store make sure to check your labels for anything that rhymes with “gross.” Like glucose and sucralose, these are hidden sugars or additives that can prevent weight loss.

  1. You're training wrong…. add resistance...or try HITT!

Most women usually spend their training efforts doing cardio, usually due to the fact they are either intimidated by weight lifting, or they have a fear they may bulk up.  However by not including resistance training in your exercise regimen, you could just be wasting your exercise time, instead of achieving your weight loss goal.

Try incorporating some small weights to your HITT workout to see better results. Don’t have a gym membership? No problem, head to your pantry and grab two cans of soup or a bag of flour! Anything that adds resistance to your workout will work just fine!
